1890 - First recorded recent influenza pandemic

1918 - H1N1 - The Spanish Flu pandemic kills more than 40 million people.

1957 - H2N2 - Asian flu pandemic kills 100,000 people

1968 - H3N2 - Hong Kong flu pandemic kills 700,000

1997 - H5N1 - Hong Kong flu with 6 deaths. All chickens were exterminated to prevent spread.

December 2003 - H5N1 - South Korea reports first cases

January 2004 - H5N1 - Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea report cases, 11 infected, 8 dead

April 6, 2004 - H7N3 - British Columbia, Canada, 2 infected

August 2004 - H5N1 - Vietnam and Thailand report 37 infected, 26 dead, 100 millon chickens are exterminated.

December 2004 - H5N1 - Vietnam reports new case.

February 2005 - H5N1 - Vietnam reports 13 new infections, 12 deaths

February 2005 - H5N1 - Cambodia reports first case

June 2005 - H5N1 - Indonesia reports man testing postive for the antibodies.

July 2005 - H5N1 - Philippines report their first case

August 2005 - H5N1 - Vietnam, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tibet, Mongoia report cases

September 2005 - H5N1 - Indonesia and Vietnam report new cases.

October 2005 - H5N1 - Greece reports first case, Indonesia reports new case.

December 2005 - H5N1 - North Carolina, USA turkeys reported infected.

January 2006 - H5N1 - Turkey reports 87 new cases, 17 dead, China reports 2 cases, both dead Indonesia reports 1 new case ending in death.

January 2006 - H5N1 - Iraq reports first cases, 2 deaths

February 2006 - H5N1 - This is the most active month in H5N1 history
